COVID-19 Update – 24 March 2020

The Federal and State governments have announced enhanced public health measures to reduce the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19).

Catholic Cemeteries + Crematoria is complying with all current advice and funeral gatherings will proceed with reduced attendance numbers. A limit of four square metres per person will apply for enclosed spaces, effective from 24 March, 2020.

To support a safe and healthy environment for all our families, employees and our communities, the maximum occupancy of our enclosed spaces will be reduced to comply with this new directive.

  • The Pavillion – 35 people, Maximum Capacity


  • Mary, Mother of Mercy Chapel – 45 people,  Maximum Capacity
  • Sacred Heart Chapel – 30 people, Maximum Capacity
  • Mary, Mother of Mercy Condolence Room – 40 people, Maximum Capacity


  • Reflection Chapel – 40 people,  Maximum Capacity
  • Waratah Lounge – 20 people, Maximum Capacity
  • Mount Carmel Mausoleum – 30 people, Maximum Capacity

We know this may be hard for many of the families and communities we serve, especially those with large families and networks. We recommend that funeral gatherings are limited to immediate family only.

The capacity restrictions are enforceable under Australian law and once capacity is reached, no additional attendees will be admitted. We are unable to accept bookings for groups exceeding these limits and existing bookings will also need to comply with these new rules.
